The GROW Model
GROW Model's steps and best practices
The GROW model provides a simple and effective framework for conducting a coaching session. Using the steps in the GROW model, the team leader helps team members resolve their own challenges.
The GROW model has four steps:
1. ESTABLISH THE GOAL
The first step is to help team members reach consensus on what they want to achieve during the session. It's important to focus on only one goal.
2. CHECK REALITY
During the second step, you help team members conduct a reality check and determine where they are in their progress toward the goal. It's important to eliminate the "woulds," "coulds," and "shoulds," forget about the past, and focus on the now.
3. IDENTIFY OPTIONS
– In this step, you help team members identify all available options for dealing with their current reality and choose the best option. Encourage everyone to contribute ideas and make sure they discuss pros and cons of each idea.
4. WRAP-UP
In the final step, make sure that team members identify obstacles to achieving their goal and commit to action. Then help them set a time frame.
