Reflect on your past coaching experiences

Use what you learned to make your coaching more effective.

Reflecting on situations where you were the coachee may help you to be a better coach. Think about these questions. Use what you learned to improve your coaching abilities:

  • Did your coach let you act autonomously, make your own decisions, and then support your decisions?

  • Did your coach encourage you to take responsibility?

  • Were you made aware of the importance of your contributions? If yes, how did that make you feel?

  • Were you encouraged to solve your own problems? If yes, was it effective?

  • Did your coach review your accomplishments and give positive feedback?

  • Were you ever put in a situation where you really weren’t prepared? How did it make you feel? What was the impact on your growth and development?

After considering these questions, apply what you’ve learned to your work as a coach.
